National challenges exist in providing protection services for the aged. A recent survey of state Adult Protective Services programs conducted by the National Committee for the Prevention of Elder Abuse on behalf of the National Center on Elder Abuse revealed a dramatic increase in the number of elder abuse reports in 2001. Adult Protective Services or APS are public response programmes that respond to complaints of abuse of vulnerable adult.
